Well, I am so happy to say that the last two booklists I have posted seem to be a BIG hit! The boys more and the girls…isn’t that shocking? But I guess it makes sense, seeing how it is hard to find books that boys will want to read, or enjoy reading when made to.
I have gotten some nice comments from both, but I have been told that they can’t wait for the 9-12 age group! (Just to let you all know, I LOVE getting comments!) So, for those who have been waiting patiently, I give you a list of books for Girls, ages 9-12!
Many of you know that most of these books I have read, personally! (If there are books on the list that I have not read, I only put them there from getting a lot of good reviews from people I trust).
- Caddie Woodlawn
Can I tell you how much I loved this book? To be honest, it was one of my favorite as a child. This was one book that I could not wait to read for school everyday. Although this is a “bigger” book, by no means is it hard. I read this to myself when I was in this age group. I loved it, understood it, and could sense a bond between myself and Caddie. To this day, Caddie Woodlawn is a book I would read and reread; never getting tired of the events her life takes her through! I encourage you to have your daughter read this book.
- Sisters in Time (Series)
I think this historical-fiction series is a wonderful one to read. The series goes from the journey on the Mayflower all the way through World War II. I still have the books! Do I read them still? Yes, on occasion, if it suits me at that time. I think these books will bring history to life in your daughter’s life. In fact, it is more like “history-in-disguise.”
- Charlotte’s Web
This book brings many memories to me. I remember crying at the end of the story, I remember feeling happy at Charlotte’s victories, and Wilber’s fight to live. A very good book, that is sure to captivate your daughter! (Even your boys will like this book!).
- All of a Kind Family (Series)
I only remember reading the first book, but it was very cute. It is a family full of girls! I’ve heard a lot of people recommend this book, because their daughters loved it.
- American Girl (Series)
What girl do you know that doesn’t like dolls? Who doesn’t know what American Girls are? I LOVED reading the books from the older eight American Girls. I would get them from the library ALL THE TIME. This is another great series that introduces your daughter to historical times, without making it feel that way. They will fall in love with the girls, just like I did! I suggest the books about these American Girls: Samantha, Kristen, Kaya, Josefina, Kit, Addy, Felicity, and Molly. (Disclaimer: I do not recommend the newer books from the newer girls/dolls, due to the fact that I’ve heard some things that doesn’t make me feel comfortable with saying that they are all good!)
I hope your daughters will love all these books, just as much, or even more, than I did!
