What mother…or avid reader, like me…doesn’t want a resource that has a bunch of wholesome book suggestions? Something that you can refer to again and again, and again!
Garrison Keillor knew what he was talking about when he said, “A book is a gift you can open again and again.”
I was given this Read for the Heart as a gift a few months ago, and I read it in about two days, but that doesn’t count the many pages of resources I had to skip over! Of course, I looked over all the book suggestions, but not as tentatively as I did the rest of the book. I wanted to read what the author said about the importance of reading…
If I am “hungry” for another book to read, and I don’t know what to look for, I pull that book out! I would seriously read every book that is suggested, if I could find them…at my library. Yeah, I’m sort of cheap that way…just because I’d spend a fortune on books! I have to limit it a little, right?
Read for the Heart was written by, Sarah Clarkson, a bibliophile and a fellow sister in Christ. She has authored a couple of books, and is currently working on a children’s series of the WWII. Sarah’s book, Read for the Heart, brought me to thinking some very detailed and impressive thoughts about books, reading, and imagination that I never really stopped to ever think about!
She has many categories in her book–and I’d say, hundreds of books in each category–that touch on classics, picture books, history, etc. Many of the books, I’ve never heard of! (Yes…I don’t know all the books!)
To me, this book is invaluable. A must have. Imagine it as a little librarian living in your house that doesn’t need any care (isn’t that nice) and who is ready to give you any book suggestion that you’re looking for as soon as you open the book! Seriously, it is that good.
I could go on and on about how wonderful this book is, but of course, I won’t…what I have said already should be enough, right?
