Ah…Summer. A time of little set schedules, easy meals, barefoot days, and just an easy living time. Nothing is set. Just go and live life.
Okay, maybe it isn’t that dreamy, but close, right?
My family is always planning on doing this or that during the Summer “vacation,” but then life catches up and we can’t do all those wonderful things we had wanted.
I’ve been thinking…
“What is one thing I want to do this Summer?”
I want to read.
It’s a bummer that most companies don’t really have any “adult” reading contests for the Summer like they do for the kids.
So…I’ve come up with my own list of books I’d like to read. Of course, I’ll probably add more to it OR life will happen and I won’t get to all of them, but at least I’m going to try. I mean, I may be graduated, but it doesn’t mean I want to stop learning! And books are the best place for more education…
My Summer Reading List:
- Tale of Two Cities
- Gideon’s Call
- Fever, 1793
- Star in the Storm
- Johnny Tremain
- The Three Musketeers
- Little Women
- The Last of the Mohicans
- Strawberry Girl
- Prairie School
- Judy’s Journey
- George Washington’s Spy
- Douglas MacArthur
- Wilfred Grenfell
- The Wanderer
- What Is Her Name?
- The Holy War
- The Duck Commander Family
- Happy, Happy, Happy
Sorry, I had to add those last two…you can say I’m sort of a Duck Dynasty fan.
Why’d I choose so many classics?
I know! It’s just crazy…but, I really did it because I love classics! I think that they are the best kind of literature and they seem to challenge me in my comprehension and vocabulary. To be sure, I’ll probably add some more books that are modern, but I would feel very accomplished if I could finish these old books. I’ve listened to a few classic books on audio years ago that would be perfect for your teen girl and teen boys, too. When I was in fourth grade, I read Heidi, another classic, so I’ve basically have been raised to enjoy old literature.
I like to stay well-read, whether it is reading modern historical fiction, or one of the classics, reading has just always been apart of my life and I want it to be that way forever!
