Every week I write a list of books for a certain subject or age group, most are divided for girls or boys.
I’ve enjoyed it. I like to know my love of a certain book can be passed to another. To me, sharing books is like married women sharing a delicious recipe with one another! I love to hear from those I have helped. It gets me all warm and fuzzy inside.
When you were a child, what was your favorite past-time?
Mine was reading (obviously, right?), writing, or listening to music. If I was able to do one of those, I was one happy camper. My desk was my favorite spot…and my bed!
List of Books for Girls, aged 9-12:
- Mary Jones and Her Bible
This book was such an inspiring story of a young girl who travels a large distance to purchase herself a Bible. Her child-like faith is so encouraging, and the knowledge and love she has for God and the Bible is very impressive. I am positive that this book will give your daughter a desire to look toward the Bible with such love when they have read this story.
- Baker’s Family Adventures
Amazing story of a Christian homeschool family who has the craziest adventures that take them to many strange places. They meet up with kidnappers, robbers, and several other evil villains. With each evil ploy the enemy throws at the Baker Family, they always look to God to get them through it. I love these books, and I’m sure your daughter will, too!
- Five Little Martins
An old classic that brings lots of laughter.
- A Girl of the Limberlost
One of my favorites. A young girl country girl faces many ridicules from her mother and school mates, but continues to see life in a different way than many. Whenever she can she goes into the woods and finds butterflies and stores them in a shed hidden in the woods. Soon she is making money with her beautiful butterflies and goes on to High School, where she learns to play the violin…
- Anne of Green Gables
Who knew a girl can say so much and have an imagination so large? I just recently have
readlistened to this book and find it quite amusing and encouraging to young ladies. We may do things wrong sometimes, but with failure comes success, and what was once ugly will one day be beautiful. Very touching and fun story! Old authors had such elegance in their writing styles, didn’t they?
Still to this day I get excited to walk into a Library, or a Bookstore, a used curriculum sale…anything that has a good book. I love to read different things; Mystery, historical fiction, non-fiction, biographies, etc.
