When I was a child, I remember always playing house…and cooking my own pretend food, for my furry friends. Having your kids in the kitchen is great, but how do you build an interest, when they are still real young?
I learned by example…and by playing. I had my own little kitchen, with play plates and silverware, some pretend food, and a little table. The whole shebang! I was set up.
Eventually, when I was around the age of 8, my mom bought me my first cookbooks and recipe cards. They were the best things! I would look at them for a long while, wanting to make what I saw. I would write down some recipes I thought would take good and store them away. When my mom asked for a recipe, I would write it down on my own recipe cards. It was fun.
