Ever since I was little, my family has not done anything big for Halloween. I do remember one Halloween where my parents did hand out candy, since we lived in a subdivision, but my brother and I were not allowed to look out the close curtains or go to the door. My parents did want us to see some of the evil costumes people wore. That was the last time we did anything…ever.
Our custom was to spend the night home, with all our lights out and sitting inside either watching a movie or playing a game. It was fun. The next day was even better going through all the discounted sweets.
Instead of learning a bunch of things about Halloween, we learned about Martin Luther and his 95 Theses. We learned about the reasons behind him writing the theses and were educated about the reformation.
Here are a few books that you could use to introduce your children to Martin Luther, one of the reformers.
Books for Martin Luther and the 95 Theses:
- Martin Luther: A Man Who Changed the World
- The Adventures of Martin Luther
- Martin Luther: What Should I Do?
- The Barber Who Wanted to Pray
Books for Teens & Adults
As a Christian, what do you and your family do on Halloween?
