She introduced these wonderful things that read the book to YOU. My mom had us listen to these books on tape for school and we would listen to them in bed. We had a 30 minute cut off time, but that didn’t mean we always kept it, due to the fact that most of the stories we listened to were so awesome. My brother and I would get so into a story that we would listen to audiobooks while we cleaned our rooms, built with Legos, wrote a letter to a friend (yes, I could to both), or just sat in our room to finish the tape from the night before.
Whether it is to just introduce audiobooks to your daughter, incorporate them in your homeschool, or to bring them on a trip…here are a few audiobooks that I’m sure your daughter will love listening, too. (Perhaps, you might enjoy them as well!)
- Elsie Dinsmore
- Anne of Green Gables
- The Secret Garden
- Little Women
- Les Miserables
- Nancy Drew
- Basket of Flowers
- The Hedge of Thorns
- Jonathan Park
- Your Story Hour
Many of the collections above, I have personally listened to myself and absolutely loved them and know that if any girls, between the ages of 8 – 14, listened to any of these books on tape listed above, they will thoroughly enjoy them…and they could possibly mark off some of their reading for school. (hint.hint.)
I know personally that if I read some of those old classics, I probably would not get into it like everyone else does, but if I listened to it…well, you probably couldn’t get me to stop listening to it.
I must tell you that not every child is created to be able to listen to audiobooks. Maybe your child learns better visually by reading. Each child is unique, so if they don’t get listening to audiobooks, it may just not be how they learn and that is okay!
But if your child cannot get into reading. AT ALL. I highly suggest you get them in front of some good audiobooks. It was one way that my brother, who never really got into books, actually was able to mark off some books on his reading list for school.
