The mid-1800s are my favorite time period. It was such a determining factor of to where our country is today. The Westward Expansion was going on with the Oregon Trail, the Civil War was beginning, and many inventions were created that helped our country’s industry.
I loved learning about the Civil War when I was younger and I spent a lot of time reading historical fiction about the Civil War, from both sides, Union and Confederate. I also read books that were written in different perspectives, free and slave. While reading these book, I learned things that I had not know before. I “met” the infamous officers and soldiers, such as, Ulysses S. Grant, Stonewall Jackson, and J.E.P Stuart in these books. I spent nights in the armies encampments. I’ve become emotionally attached to everyone’s situations and felt the pain of a lost loved one.
Where I live, I am surrounded by Civil War battlefields. In fact, there is a battlefield a few miles behind my house! I could probably get a metal detector and search for Civil War memorabilia. I’m just surrounded by it!
